Why Join PTA?
Because Parent Involvement Increases Student Success. Research shows that when parents are involved, students have:
- Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates.
- Better school attendance.
- Increased motivation and better self-esteem.
- Lower rates of suspension.
- Decreased use of alcohol and other drugs.
- Fewer instances of violent behavior.
- Greater enrollment rates in post-secondary education.
The National PTA has set standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs. The Kleven Boston PTA uses these standards as a guide to promote meaningful parent and family participation in school. They are:
- Communication - between home and school is regular, two-way, and meaningful.
- Parenting Skills - are promoted and supported.
- Student Learning - parents play an integral role in assisting student learning.
- Volunteering - parents are welcome in the school and their support and assistance are sought.
- School Decision Making and Advocacy - parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and families.
- Collaborating with the Community - community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and student learning.
Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence Certification
This program, sponsored by the National PTA, recognizes schools with parent involvement programs based on the standards above. The Kleven Boston PTA will begin working this year to get our school ready to apply for this award. Certification builds support and respect for our school in the community and aids in teacher recruitment, public relations, and grant seeking efforts. Download a membership form here.
